#07: Houston over the past year.
Only two stations made some changes over the past year in their newscast schedules.
Only two stations in Houston made some changes to its newscast schedule over the past year. Those stations… are KPRC and KHOU.
Just at the start of the year on January 9th, KPRC cut their weekday morning news at 4:30 a.m. One story mentioned that it was due to a lack of producers, though its probably more of a transfer of resources for its later hours.
That came true later in the year when KPRC added an hour-long weekday morning newscast at 10:00 a.m. KPRC 2 News Today at 10:00 a.m. is anchored by their current weekday morning news team of Owen Conflenti and Sofia Ojeda. Its the ONLY local morning news at that time in the market but also now gives KTRK (ABC)’s 11:00 a.m. news with local news exclusivity as well. This began last week on Monday, September 11th.
Also, that half-hour midday news at 11:00 a.m. was moved to later in the afternoon with a new half-hour at 3:00 p.m., also debuting on the same day as the 10:00 a.m. KPRC 2 News at 3:00 competes against KTRK’s newscast at that time.
Finally, KPRC added an extra hour to its Saturday morning news, which now airs at 8:00 a.m. KPRC 2 News Today on Saturdays now airs from 6:00-7:00 and 8:00-10:00 a.m. and is anchored by Britanny Jeffers with weather from Meteorologist and longtime station veteran Khambrel Marhsall. It now airs the ONLY Saturday morning news at 8:00 a.m. in the market because…
Also in the market, KHOU made some changes to its weekend schedule, especially its weekend morning news. First off, its Saturday morning news was moved an hour later to 9:00 a.m., airing after the now-delayed CBS Saturday Morning from 7:00-9:00 a.m.
Plus, KHOU added a half-hour to its Sunday morning news at 6:30 a.m. The Sunday edition of the KHOU 11 Morning News now airs from 6:30-8:00 a.m., including Houston’s ONLY Sunday morning news at 7:00 a.m.
