Well, what do you know? We did miss some changes from across the country! I knew it would happen though but that’s what happens when you cover a lot of ground from a lot of markets. You’ll eventually get through some. But here, there have been some changes from Northern Michigan that I will report on right now.
First off, over the past year or so, WPBN/WTOM has now allowed sister station WGTU/WGTQ to add a weekend simulcast of its 11:00 p.m. news. At first, it was only on Saturdays but then was added on Sundays as well. This comes after the duopoly’s newscasts were rebranded and are now known as UpNorthLIVE News. The 11:00 p.m. newscast is the only simulcast on both stations whereas WPBN/WTOM airs the majority of its newscasts but does produce a half-hour weeknight newscast at 6:30 p.m. that’s exclusively for WGTU/WGTQ.
Also, another simulcast was added here from over the past year, and its that WWTV/WWUP now allows its sister station WFQX/WFUP to air the entirety of WWTV’s weekday morning news, Michigan This Morning. This means that WFQX now airs it from 4:30-9:00 a.m., with the latter two hours being exclusive to WFQX, which is the ONLY local morning news at that time in the market.
I do have one more post here so stay tuned for that. A second finale, perhaps? This time, for sure. Stay tuned.
