Other changes I've missed from three different markets.
Huntsville, Memphis (again), and Austin are the ones I've missed.
I promise you this will be the final one in catching up from the past year and thankfully, all of these are minor so it’ll be easy to catch up pretty quickly.
First off to Huntsville and Northern Alabama where at some point, WAFF moved its Saturday morning news. It used to be from 5:00-6:00 and from 8:00-9:00 a.m., but now its together and airing from 5:00-7:00 a.m., just like its Sunday edition. This also comes as WAFF no longer produces daily morning newscasts for its second subchannel, Bounce Huntsville. It used to air morning news on there from 7:00-9:00 a.m. Sundays-Fridays and from 6:00-7:00 a.m. on Saturdays. That has since ended, more likely due to Bounce’s contractual obligations but also because WAFF just wanted to run the Bounce feed full-time.
Next, we go to Memphis and Western Tennessee where WREG has expanded its Sunday morning news over the past year to an extra half-hour at 5:30 a.m., meaning they now go from 5:30-8:00 a.m., prior to CBS Sunday Morning starting at 8:00 a.m. Also, despite some saying that WREG cut its Saturday morning news to two hours. Actually, that’s not true. WREG still runs three straight hours of Saturday morning news from 6:00-9:00 a.m. and is one of a few CBS affiliates to pre-empt CBS Saturday Morning entirely in favor of its own local morning news, which has done so since CBS expanded to Saturday mornings in September of 1997.
Finally, to Texas’ capital city, Austin. KXAN has added an extra half-hour to its Sunday morning news at 10:00 a.m. to somewhat make up for the loss of the 8:30 a.m. half-hour it gave up a few years ago to air its statewide Sunday public affairs show, The State of Texas, which airs right after their 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning news.
Okay. Now I’m finally done. Now you’re officially caught up on everything that has been seen and reported over the past year. Boy, I need a vacation again (haha, just kidding). I will be more frequent this time now that we’re on a new platform.
Also, thank you so very much for your support! New readers, new subscribers, and hopefully you can turn that into donations! All donations help support my work as I’m currently jobless. Anything would make a difference!
Until next time, I’m done. I’m out. But I won’t go far because Changing Newscasts is back and is here to stay!
